Our respected client has about 80 people in a variety of roles from keeping their printers on the road through software development (they have a team of 13 developers), system administrators for over 1200 hosts running Windows Server and primarily Linux and project management.

This permanent employer has a highly skilled team, tech led and introducing new methodologies across all their IT areas. They use test driven agile development with CI, automate system administration using Puppet and are moving into AWS.

Presently, SDP is looking for an exceptional Linux Infrastructure Administrator to join the Systems Group. A self-motivated person who enjoys continuously learning new skills, you’ll be part of the team that provides the infrastructure support for the work of the rest of IT Services, working on large scale systems administration and automation for both on-premises and cloud based infrastructure. The client has over 1000 virtual machines running on VMware vSphere and use VMware’s network virtualisation platform NSX, over 200 physical hosts providing services and HPC facilities (with another 200 HPC nodes to come) and ~2.5PB of storage on NetApp and Dell Compellent SAN/NAS platforms.

They manage the Linux machines using Puppet, with fully automated VM builds and you’ll use your deep knowledge of Linux administration to drive this area. They have legacy stuff, that you will be instrumental in helping replace. Knowledge of cloud technologies will be an asset, but they are willing to train the right candidate as part of their extensive professional development programme.

Linux System Administrator/ Engineer Skills/Qualifications:

-A driven and self-motivated individual who can work on their own initiative in a busy environment.

-A logical and structured approach towards troubleshooting and internal project work.

-An excellent communicator who can help to develop good IT practices, and service excellence.

-Extensive experience working with Linux configuration, management and administration.

-Sound knowledge of networking and security principles, and experience administering switches/routers and firewalls.

-Experience working with Virtualization (Openstack, KVM, Docker,Vagrant).

-Strong knowledge of Programming/Scripting.

-Exposure to cloud infrastructure – AWS, Azure, Amazon Redshift, etc.

-Good knowledge of ITIL or any other industry standard best practice framework desirable

-Strong knowledge of SQL Configuration management and administration.

-Strong knowledge or experience with automated configuration management (Puppet, Chef, Ansible)

-Web servers (Apache Tomcat/JBoss)
